The routing scheme used by RCUBE is called interval labelling. Each device in a network is labelled with a number which is used as the destination address in a packet header (programmable length : 1 or 2 characters). Each of the 8 input links includes routing tables whereby each output link is assigned an interval of labels. When a packet arrives on an input link the routing decision is made by comparing the header to each bound of the intervals. When the header falls within an interval, the associated output is chosen. The intervals are and must be contiguous and non overlapping so that each header can only belongs to one interval.
