There are three types of messages : standard messages, short messages, composed messages.
There is one transmitter and one receiver. The message consists of one or several pages described in the LPE. Data are fetched and written in user memory space.
A short messages contains 8 bytes or less. Data are fetched directly in the LPE and written directly in the LMI. The protocol is simpler and several PCI bus accesses are saved.
There are several transmitters and one receiver. The receiver waits until all transmitters have sent one empty message. This message type which does not transfer any data, can be used to implement synchronization. barriers. All piece of message of a composed message must have the same Message Identifier (MI).
