PCI-DDC can notify the receiving processor whenever a message has been completely received. The basic mechanism is to write the message identifier in a structure in the main memory (the List of Message Identifier: LMI), and to assert an interrupt signal. Thanks to the LMI, there is no contention at the receiving site: the software can handle several received message at a time.
PCI-DDC can notify the sending processor whenever a page has been completely transmitted by asserting an interrupt signal. Those interruptions are non-blocking from PCI-DDC point of view.
